Abstract
712,660. Electromagnetic switches. UHER, E. April 10, 1952 [April 18, 1951], No. 9283/52. Class 38(5) In a combined voltage regulator, current regulator and charging switch for lighting installations of power-driven vehicles, the coils, such as 22 and 23 are mounted on cores connected by a common yoke 2 and the pole pieces 221 and 231 of adjacent coils are connected by an alloy 27 the permeability of which varies with temperature. In the form shown the coil 23 is a voltage coil and serves to regulate the voltage by attracting an armature 26, and the alloy 27 and core 22 thus form part of a shunt circuit to the main magnetic circuit through the armature. The coil 22 consists of a current winding and a voltage winding and controls two armatures 24, 25 which respectively regulate the current and control the charging switch, these main circuits through the armatures being shunted by the alloy 27 and the core 23. The alloy 27 may be of iron-nickel or iron-nickel combined with " Monel " metal (Registered Trade Mark) and its permeability decreases with temperature so that it may compensate for the heating of the windings or according to requirements. In a modification, Fig. 2, (not shown) there are three cores in a line each controlling its own armature and adjacent pole pieces are connected by the special alloy. One core carries a voltage winding only. The other cores each carry a voltage winding and a current winding. Specification 704,412 is referred to.
