Abstract
166,213. Switchgear & Cowans, Ltd., Ogley, D. H., and Neep, G. H. April 3, 1919. Electromagnets.-An electromagnet excited by an alternating current for operating electric switches and the like is arranged in series with a non-inductive resistance and is provided with a core or armature which makes direct contact with the pole or poles without the intervention of non-magnetic material. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 2 the armature h is pivoted and comes directly in contact with the poles d' and d<2> from which it is withdrawn by a spring f when the current falls below a certain value. A non- inductive resistance, e.g. a lamp e is arranged in series with the magnet coil a and can be automatically short-circuited when the armature leaves the magnet so that on the current again rising to its normal value the armature may be attracted. For this purpose a switch j is provided, operated by a member k on the armature. In a modification the resistance is short-circuited by hand. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 11429/00, 23831/10, and 28864/12.
