Abstract
In the dyeing or printing of textile materials comprising a mixture of cellulose and cellulose ester, e.g. cellulose acetate, fibres, solid shades are produced on both types of fibre by applying a composition comprising a vat dye, a vat dye leuco ester and thiourea dioxide, then heating the material, e.g. by steam, to approximately 100 DEG C., the vat dye being thus reduced to the acid leuco form and absorbed on the cellulose ester fibre and the vat dye leuco ester being unaffected and absorbed as such on the cellulose fibre, and finally oxidizing, e.g. with an aqueous sodium nitrite-sulphonic acid bath. Two-colour effects may be obtained by employing a vat dye from which the leuco ester is prepared which is different from the vat dye used to colour the cellulose ester fibre. In examples assistants present in the printing paste or dyeing solution are thiodiglycol, polyethyleneglycol, urea and ammonium thiocyanate.
