Abstract
Cellulose acetate fibres are dyed by means of a pre-formed dispersion of an acid leuco vat dye which has been prepared by reduction of vat dyestuff with thiourea dioxide in the presence of alkali with subsequent acidification. When used for printing cellulose acetate fabrics, the printing paste may contain an excess of free thiourea dioxide, and the printed fabric aged before oxidation to develop the colour. An Example is given in which cellulose acetate fabric is printed with a paste made by heating together Caledon Jade Green XNS, thiourea dioxide, caustic soda and water, and then pouring the leuco vat solution thus formed into a mixture of tragacanth thickener and acetic acid; the printed fabric is then aged in saturated steam at 102 DEG C and oxidized.
