Abstract

Goods made of any fibre, cotton, wool, silk, mixed fibres &c., are dyed or printed with the water-soluble esterlike derivatives of leuco vat-dyes described in Specification 186,057, and the colours developed by action of an acidified chromate solution, or, especially in the case of thioindigo, by exposure to light; the leuco-ester and the chromate may be dyed or printed together on the material and the latter passed through an acid bath; nitrosamine red dyestuffs may be printed and developed simultaneously. Reserve effects are obtained by printing the impregnated goods with thickened hydrosulphite and then passing them through an acid bath for white reserves, or steaming and passing through an acid bath if a vat-dyestuff has been added to the hydrosulphite for a coloured reserve. Discharge effects are obtained by printing coloured grounds with a leuco-ester salt and hydrosulphite, steaming, and then oxidizing to develop the unchanged leuco-ester salt; for example, a rongalite discharge-salt W discharge mixed with dihydro-indigo ester salt is printed on a thioindigo or diamine dyestuff ground, steamed, and the indigo developed in a warm acidified chromate bath. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) refers to the use of oxidizing agents in general in the above processes and mentions ferric chloride. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
