Abstract
A bituminous composition comprises blown asphaltic bitumen, a lubricating oil distillate and more than 5 per cent. by weight, relative to the bitumen, of an alkaline earth naphthenate. A modification comprises the bitumen and calcium naphthenate, in the same proportion as before, only. The ratio of naphthenate to distillate varies from 1 to 2, to 5 to 1. Preferred naphthenates are those derived from acids of molecular weights between 250 and 600. The calcium naphthenate may be added as the residue obtained by redistilling a suitable lubricating oil over lime. The addition of the naphthenate or distillate may be prior to, during, or after, blowing the bitumen.
