Abstract

Sound-deadening compositions for coating the wheels of railway vehicles consist of bituminous mixtures containing a substantial proportion of fibrous material such as asbestos, granulated cork, wood or vegetable pulp, felt, or rubber compositions. Heat dissipating materials, such as iron filings, may also be incorporated. Typical compositions consist of (1) equal parts of white asbestos fibre and an emulsion of bitumen (3 parts) and water (7 parts); (2) white asbestos (1 part) Portland cement (2 parts), and emulsion of bitumen (3 parts) and water (15 parts). The compositions may be moulded, or sprayed as described in Specification 368,368, [Group III]. Specification 6536/11, [Class 70], also is referred to.
