[Class 70] [Also, in Group III] A bituminous composition comprises bitumen or tar or mixtures thereof, and a relatively small amount, for example 6 to 10 per cent, of a fine fibrous material obtained by grinding, washing with hot or cold water and drying fibrous vegetable material for example wood. The washing is usually continued until 50 to 75 per cent of the mucilaginous substances originally present in the wood have been removed. The composition may also contain solvents for the bituminous materials, such as benzene or benzine, resins, fats, oils, waxes, and inorganic fillers for example asbestos or glass wool. The composition may be used for filling joints in building or constructional work, or as a cement or paint; it may be used either hot or cold.
