Class 100(i) A device for receiving washed articles from a mangle comprises at least one suspension carrier adapted to collect the articles which are advanced by means of a conveying device, the carrier being arranged transversely to the moving direction of the conveying device and being mounted on a slide or carriage which is movable towards and away from the conveying device under the control of impulses released by the articles thereon in such manner that it is caused to receive the individual washed articles at the delivery end of the conveying device, and to carry them, one after the other, suspended astride the suspension carrier, a movable feeler arranged in the path of the articles being adapted to control, by means of an electric circuit, a pneumatic or hydraulic mechanism for moving the slide or carriage in one direction, while a spring device is adapted to return it in the opposite direction, the electric circuit including a slow acting relay for holding the slide or carriage at the delivery end for a pre-determined period after the washed articles have engaged the feeler. The articles 27 may be delivered from the mangle by a conveyer 7 to a conveyer 8, preferably moving at a greater speed, from the delivery end of which they are received by a device 10. This has a vertical wall 10a, or a horizontal bar or the like, across which the article 27 falls, the device 10 being mounted on a slide or carriage 11 which is caused to move it from position A to position B when the leading edge of the article 27 passes beneath a pivoted arm 17 which operates a mercury switch 19, included in an electrical circuit controlling a valve 6 which in turn controls the admission of fluid to a pneumatic or hydraulic cylinder 12b, mounted on the frame 9, the piston rod 12a being connected to the slide 11. A slow acting or retarding relay is included in the circuit of the switch 19, so that the device 10 is held in position B for a sufficiently long time to gather the article in the manner intended, before it commences its return movement to position A under the action of springs 13. The reciprocating suspension carrier 10 may be replaced.by an intermittently rotating wheel or the like, and its movement may be effected by a crank or otherwise.
