Abstract
356,648. Endless chain conveyers with articles hung on hooks. WHITE, A. E., 5, Quality Court, Chancery Lane, London.-(Morgan Construction Co. ; 15, Belmont Street, Worcester, Massachusetts, U.S.A.) Feb. 17, 1931, No. 5063. [Class 78 (i).] In a conveyer system in which articles are fed at a number of points into the path of hooks carried by an endless chain, a transfer device is arranged at each feeding point which operates in the presence of an article and on the approach of a hook, only if the said hook is not engaged with an article taken from a preceding feeding point. Each hook 6 is mounted on roller supports 7 connected to form an endless chain, and travels in a groove 5 in a platform 4. Articles, such as coils of wire a, are transferred from a platform 13 to the platform 4 by a pair of pivoted arms 29, and are delivered to the platform 13 by lugs 8<1> on the feeding conveyers 1, 2, 3. During the transfer of an article to the platform 13, it moves a pivoted arm 14 and opens a switch 16 and closes a switch 15. The opening of the switch 16 stops the drive of the feeding conveyer, and this cannot be resumed until the removal of the article allows the arm to return to its initial position. The circuits containing the switches 15 are connected in parallel across the leads 17, 18 and include normally-open switches 19 disposed above the platform 4 and adapted to be closed by the action of a hook on an arm 20. Each circuit, except the one associated with the conveyer 1, contains also a normallyclosed switch 21 which is opened by the action of an article on a movable arm 22. When each switch 15, 19, 21 is closed, a solenoid 23 is energized thereby releasing a latch 26 holding a weighted arm 27 attached to the arms 29. The descent of the arm 27 causes the arms 29 to move to transfer the articles to the platform 4. The arm 27 is returned to the position shown in Fig. 3 by a link 33 actuated by an eccentric 34 on the shaft of the sprocket 12.
