Abstract
691,389. Four-stroke engines. JENDRASSIK, G. Aug. 29, 1951 [Sept. 12, 1950]. No. 22394/50, Class 7 (v). In an engine provided with at least. one cam surface 22 for opening the inlet valve with considerable delay at starting, a number of interchangeable cams 23 of different profile are provided for the exhaust valve, one of the cams serving to provide an overlapping of the exhaust valve with the inlet valve during normal operation of the engine and another of the cams leaving the exhaust valve closed during the intake stroke of the engine at starting. The cams may be carried on a shaft 20 which is axially displaceable by a handwheel 24 against a spring 26 and locked in position by a device 35. There may be a compression relief cam' 23", and a turbine-driven supercharging compressor between the exhaust and inlet manifolds 33, 34.
