The gripping surfaces 14 of a V-belt pulley are made with a concave curvature so as to correspond to the convex curvature of the sides of a normal trapezoidal belt when it is flexed around the pulley. The pulley is made of pressed steel discs welded together at 15 and 17 and to a hub portion 18 or it may be moulded in metal or non-metallic material such as a plastic.
