Hand sewing tools.-A tufting tool comprises two slidably - interfitting body members 10, 11, with handles 14, the member 10 having a needle 15 for inserting loops of wool into backing material and the member 11 carrying means for holding a completed loop (shown as pins 36) and scissors 40 for cutting the loops, the scissors being positively opened and closed by means on the member 10 at appropriate points in the relative movement between the members. In the embodiment shown, the members 10, 11 are channel-shaped, the eyed needle 15 is integral with the member 10, and the pins 36 and the scissors 40 are carried by separate resilient members fixed at the top to the member 11 and acting to press the scissors into the channel of the member 10; stops 18, 39, which may be adjustable, are secured on the member 10 and the member carrying the pins 36 respectively. One blade of the scissors 40 is integral with the resilient member carrying it, while the other blade is pivoted to it and has a tail formed with a lug 44 for engagement with a fixed tooth inside the member 10 and a cam member 28 resiliently mounted on the member 10; stops, which may be adjustable, are carried by the member 11 to engage the member 28 to limit relative movement between the two main members. In operation, the needle 15 is first inserted in the work, the cam 28 riding over the lug 44 and the scissors being opened by the tooth in the member 10; the member 11 is then moved down to hold the wool by the pins 36 and to pass the open scissors over it, the cam 28 remaining deflected, and the needle is withdrawn to make its next penetration of the work at a distance determined by the permissible deflection of the members carrying the pins 36 and the scissors (this deflection being limited by an adjustable stop screw 46), the scissors being closed during this penetration by action of the cam 28 on the lug 44.
