Abstract
722,095. Scissors. MOSS, D. J. July 8, 1952 [May 23, 1951], No. 12011/51. Class 30. [Also in Group VII] A device for making and cutting stitches in rug-making comprises a pair of blades 1, 2 pivotably connected at 5 in scissors fashion and arranged to be moved from an open position (shown in full lines) in which a yarn 6 can be placed. between their front edges, which are blunt, to an overlapping position in which the blades can pass through a base fabric and past this position (e.g. to the dotted position), at least one of the blades having its rear edge formed as a cutting edge so that the yarn is cut when the movement of the blades is reversed after they have passed the overlapping position. In the form shown the blade 2 is longer than the blade 1 and has a conical tip 2a of which the base covers the end of the blade 2 in the overlapping position to present a smooth surface for passing through fabric. For comparatively thick material, one or each blade may have a notch in its blunt front edge to locate the yarn; in a small tool for fine work the notch is preferably replaced by a shallow indentation in the flat surface of the blade, extending inwards from the front edge. The blades, especially in a small tool, are preferably slightly twisted, as in scissors.
