[Class 83 (ii)] [Also in Group X] A screen for windows &c. is formed from a solid sheet of thin metal having a number of parallel continuous and equally-spaced supporting strips 11 dividing the screen into narrow columns each comprising a number of uniform and parallel elements 10 formed from the sheet, severed along the side edges, integral at the ends with the supporting strips, and twisted to be disposed at an angle to the plane of the screen. Preferred dimensions are, thickness of metal 5/ 10000 -10/ 10000 inch, width of strips (11) <SP>1</SP>/ 16 inch, width of columns 1 inch, width of elements (10) <SP>1</SP>/ 8 -<SP>1</SP>/ 20 inch, preferably <SP>1</SP>/ 16 inch, angle between the elements and the sheet 45-90 degrees, shown as 75 degrees. The metal is preferably resilient and has a dull, roughened, or painted surface. The screen may be formed with a continuous smooth-edged border 12, and may be secured in metal or wooden frames by nails &c. To obtain screens of greater length and width, sections of the required width are made without the upper and lower border 12, overlapped so that at least one element of each section is face-to-face, and secured together by spot-welding 13. Sections may be made in standard widths, and thus joined, and may be reinforced vertically by forming the strips 11<SP>1</SP> with beads 14.
