[Classes 75(iii) and 75(iv)] An electric lighting fitting comprises a channel section body member and a mounting plate carrying a lampholder, the mounting plate being detachably mountable on opposed ledges at the sides of the channel section body and arranged to be retained thereon by spring retaining means inside the body member. As shown a fitting tor a double ended fluorescent lamp comprises a channel member housing a choke 10 and a capacitor 11 and having its edges 4 turned inwardly to form supporting ledges for lampholder mounting plates 3 arranged one at each end of the fitting. Each plate 3 is formed with inturned flanges 6, 6a, Fig. 6, which support a lampholder housing 2 slidably mounted thereon to facilitate making the connection to the lamp. Bowed leaf springs 5, 5a secured to the sides of the channel member 1 at each end thereof engage recesses 7, 7a formed in the sides of each mounting plate to locate it in its correct position. The mounting plate may be assembled in the fitting by entering it diagonally into the channel member 1, resting one side on a ledge 4 (as shown chain-dotted in Fig. 3) and pulling the plate down until the other side rides over the appropriate leaf spring (5a) and rests on the ledge 4a. Alternatively the sides of the plate may be tapered slightly to form a lead as shown in Fig. 6 and the plate entered centrally of the fitting and slid along to the end thereof until the leaf springs engage the recesses 7, 7a. The open bottom of the channel member 1 may be closed by a plain closure plate or by the upper surface of a reflector, supported in either case by wing nuts 15 engaging support rods 14. Where a reflector is used, apertures are provided in its upper surface to pass over the lampholder housings 2. Fig. 5 shows the plate 3 mounted with the lampholder 2 disposed inside the channel member for transport purposes.
