Abstract
650,686. Tubular-lamp fittings. BENJAMIN ELECTRIC, Ltd. March 21, 1947, No. 7823. Convention date, March 22, 1946. [Classes 75(ii) and 75(iv)] In a fitting for tubular lamps having an inverted channel-like reflector 6 secured to the underside of an inverted channel-like hood 1, either the reflector is secured to the hood by threading a nut having a lateral projection on to the end of a bolt 7 extending from the top of the hood through an opening in the reflector, the opening being shaped so that in one rotative position of the nut the lateral projection clears the edge of the opening to allow the nut to pass therethrough or the means for supporting the tubular lamps within the reflector comprises a lamp-holder extending into the hood and held therein by a latch. The wings 10 of a wing nut 8 provide lateral projections which when properly aligned can pass through the slot-shaped opening 9 in the reflector. An eyelet riveted to the edges of the slot has four sloping shoulders 11 leading to depressions 12 with which the wings of the nut engage when positioned to support the reflector. The nut may be tightened to cause the reflector roof to spring slightly. Each lampholder 3. 4 comprises two lamp sockets 22 secured to a metal plate 17 which slides in vertical guides in a bracket 15 in the hood and is held therein by the engagement of a leaf sging 19 on the hood with an embossed horizontal rib 18 on the back of the plate 17. Apertures 13, 14 large enough to permit passage therethrough of the sockets of the lamp-holders are provided on the roof of the reflector so that the reflector can be detached from the hood without removing the lamp-holders. Horizontal shelves 20 project from the plates 17 to cover these apertures 13, 14. Four sheet metal conductors extend upwardly between sheets of insulating material from the two lamp sockets 22 on each holder to connect with terminals at the upper end of the plate 17. Specification 650,709, [Group XXXVI], is referred to.
