A lampshade supporting device comprises a bracket having attachment means for attaching the bracket to a lampholder assembly and terminating away from the attachment means in a lug and a co-operating mounting member attached to the inside of a lampshade and which can be fitted on to the lug for mounting the lampshade on the assembly, the mounting member having at least two openings into which the lug can alternatively be inserted without deformation of the bracket or lug for enabling the lampshade to be supported on the bracket in at least two different positions, the shape of the lampshade and/or the position on it of the mounting member being such that the effective configuration of the lampshade relative to the bracket attachment means is different in each of the positions. One end of the bracket 1 fits on the electric light fitting, the other end has a stepped part 7 and a lug 6 which engages in an aperture in a mounting member 15 secured to the lampshade by lugs 22 passing through slots in the lampshade. The member 15 has a rectangular base and side walls which decrease in width towards the upper end and each edge is turned in and has a rib 20 decreasing in height towards the upper end. The lugs 22 extend from the inturned edge. The mounting member may be made of resilient material to grip the lug and the intermediate portion 5 may be slotted. The portion 5 and end portion 2 may have the edges turned up to provide strengthening flange 8. A cover-plate may fit over the lugs 22. The mounting member is open at each end so that the lug 6 may enter either end or the two or more apertures may face the same end for adjusting the height of the lampshade on the holder or the arrangement of apertures may be combined.
