630,543. Open-hearth furnaces. THIEMANN, W. H. A. (Oesterreichisch-Amerikanische Magnesit Akt.-Ges.). Dec. 19, 1947, No. 33662. [Classes 51 (i) and 51 (ii)] In a Siemens-Martin open-hearth furnace having air or gas passages leading from the regenerators each passage comprises an upper section 13 forming part of the hearth 8 and carried by auxiliary supports 19 on the hearth support 16, and a lower section 14 supported by the roof arch 2 of a regenerator, the spigot joint 15 forming a gap between the sections being provided with a suitable packing.
