Abstract
628,726. Tunnel furnaces. JOHNSON, S. B., HIND, W. B., and HIND-GRIFFITHS FURNACES Ltd. Oct. 10, 1947, No. 27254. [Class 51 (ii)] The firing zone of a tunnel furnace is heated by oppositely-disposed pairs of burners 11a, 11b, the former discharging into the lower part of the zone, and the latter into vertical passages 12 which are defined by the side wall 13 of the furnace and panels 14 of highly refractory material and open into the firing zone adjacent the roof thereof. The trucks 8 on which the ware is stacked are formed with transverse and vertical ducts 8a, 8b for the passage of the heating gases, and the burners 11a are located at the same height as the transverse ducts.
