Abstract

623,501. Supply systems for discharge lamps; inductances. COLE, Ltd., E. K., and STICKLEY, W. A. May 6, 1947, No. 12163. [Classes 38 (ii) and 38 (iv)] The ballast in the circuit of a discharge lamp consists of interwound inductance coils a, b connected in series aiding and on opposite sides of the lamp L to constitute also a condenser for power factor correction. Two sheets of metal foil are interwound with paper tissue and assembled with E-shaped laminations, forming a shell-type core with air-gaps; the whole is vacuum dried and immersed in a petroleum jelly mixture.
