Abstract
621,991. Tricycle chain adjustment. JAMES CYCLE CO., Ltd., and KIMBERLEY, F. A. March 3, 1947, No. 5953. [Class 136 (iii)] A tricycle having a frame of the type shown wherein the rear wheel axle is supported by a pair of depending arms attached to a transverse axle carrying member which is angularly adjustable for chain tensioning. The tricycle has a main frame member 10 to which is secured a bracket 29 for the pedal crank mechanism and a member 24 is secured to arms on which the rear wheel axle 27 is secured. A lug 11 is fixed to the frame member 10 and has two sockets 12 and 13 for the saddle pillar and main frame member respectively. One end of the lug has a semi-circular opening 15, ears 16 and an extension 17 through a hole in which a screw 18 passes. A cap 20 has a slot 23 and partcircular opening 21 and ears 22 which can be screwed to the ears 16. The centre of the axle carrying member 24 passes through the opening formed. The member 24 has a tongue 28 which passes through the slot 23 in the cap 20 and the end of the screw 18 makes contact with it. By loosening the fastenings of the ears and adjusting the screw 18 the member 24 is rotated and the rear axle moved thereby adjusting the tension of the driving chain passing round sprocket wheel 30. The screw 18 can be locked in position by a nut 19. The axle carrying member can be removed from the frame with the rear wheel axle to facilitate packing.
