Abstract
615,964. inductances; supply systems for space discharge lamps. STURDY ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., LARK, G. T. K., and DAVIE, R. B. Aug. 23, 1946, No. 25309. [Classes 38 (ii) and 38 (iv)] A choke coil 1 comprises one or more windings 1a, 1b of rectangular or other cross-section of greater width than height and an inner core 2 of straight laminations with a casing 3 of sheet magnetic material surrounding the winding, such as the steel trough of a reflector for a discharge lamp or a shallow casing of similar shape mounted on top thereof. The winding(s) may extend beyond one end of the core to form an air gap in the magnetic circuit and the casing 3 may contain components associated with the choke, such as an auto-transformer 4, condensers 5 and 6 and a vibrator 7, the remaining space being filled with an insulating compound. The casing may be divided into compartments by transverse partitions of magnetic material; these may be placed close to the ends of the choke winding(s) to provide a magnetic path to the sides of the case. Terminal blocks 8 and 9 may be fitted on the casing.
