Abstract
1,158,734. Transformers and inductors. SYLVANIA ELECTRIC PRODUCTS, Inc. 14 Dec.. 1966 [30 Dec., 1965], No. 56057/66. Heading H1T. An inductive device, such as a ballast transformer for fluorescent lamps, comprises a plurality of coils mounted on a generally rectangular core composed of two laminated U-shaped sections 12, 13 secured together by a fused joint 22 between the outer strips 1, 6 while the inner strips are held together by welds 14 and are staggered to interleave over a particular zone 17, at least one strip being cut short to define an air gap G lying outside the zone. Magnetic shunt strips 23 are located either side of the core across the legs 16 and coextensive with the inter-leaving zone, being spaced from the core laminations by insulating sheets (26), (Fig. 1, not shown) and secured by a bolt 24.
