Abstract

609,345. Smallarms. SMEATON, I. D., and SOCHACZEWSKI, S. March 12, 1946, No. 7634. [Class 119] A periscope for attachment to smallarms has a circular cross-sectioned component 66 containing the lower mirror 67 of the periscope welded to a tapering component 62 of the crosssection shown in Fig. 9. Into the component 62 is loosely inserted so that it is easily replaceable when damaged, a similarly sectioned tapering component 71 to which is welded cylindrical cross-sectioned component 72 having part 73 overhanging part 62 as a protection against rain. The upper compartment 72 contains the upper mirror 74 of the periscope and is provided with a circular window 75 and peak 81. The periscope is mounted on an auxiliary stock, shown in Fig. 3. The stock comprises a main tube 14, to which is attached a support 16, having a hole 49<SP>1</SP> through which the periscope is bolted to the stock by a bolt 49 on the part 62. Also fixed to the stock are shoulder prop 25, pistol grip 15 and prop 48 for steadying the weapon against a wall. The spring 27 maintains the shoulder prop in working position.
