Abstract

1,016,292. Pit props. STEWARTS and LLOYDS Ltd. Feb. 6, 1964 [May 15, 1963], No. 19326/63. Heading E1E. The inner member 1 of a yielding telescopic strut 1, 6 for mine roofs is supported by a tapered member 5 of wood, plastics or rubber which, as the strut yields, is forced through a flanged insert 2 removably mounted on the lower end of the member 1. When it has yielded fully the strut is dismantled and the insert 2 refitted with a new member 5. In a modification the deformable member 5 is replaced by a steel or like rod which is a friction fit in the insert 2.
