Abstract
606,723. Ventilator valves. NORRIS WARMING CO., Ltd., and HICKMOTT, B. W. R. Jan. 17, 1946, No. 1600. [Class 137] Ventilators or air diffusers for admitting air from a duct into a room or the like comprise a socket 1 for securing in an aperture in the duct 2, a bored nozzle 3 in the form of a ball movably held in the socket, an inner sleeve 4 slidable in the nozzle, a plate 5 secured to one end of the sleeve in a plane parallel to the end of the nozzle, and apertures 6 in the sleeve adjacent to the plate. As shown the nozzle 3 works as a ball and socket joint in the socket 1 which has an airtight packing ring 7. A spring loaded ball 8 in the nozzle engages frictionally with the sleeve or in dimples 9 therein. The sleeve 4 has a collar 10 at the open end and a rim 5a at the other, and can be adjusted to give maximum flow of air, as shown in full lines, to stop the flow, as shown in chain dotted lines, or in any intermediate position the unit may be secured in the side on the duct, or in the underside with the plate 5 outermost. The plate 5 may have a conical diffuser on its inner side, or be covered with felt etc.
