Abstract
Alumina is heated to about 300 DEG C., thrown while hot into a cold solution of hydrochloric, sulphuric, nitric or acetic acids and heated again to a temperature of 350-290 DEG C. to improve its adsorbent properties. The acid penetrates deeply owing to the vacuum set up by the chilling. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also the application of the process to carbon and earths for oil decolorisation. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
