Abstract

603,394. Cramps. COOPER, F. C. Oct. 19, 1945, No. 27561. [Class 61 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXIV] A device for depressing the brake pedal of a vehicle to facilitate adjustment of the brakes, comprises a screw-jack carrying a presser member for engagement with the pedal and adapted also to abut against a fitting secured, for instance, to the steering column. The device shown comprises a screwed rod 18, a barrel-nut 19 and a telescopic strut 22, 26 of which the part 26 carries the presser foot 27 for engagement with the pedal. The rod 18 abuts on a bar 15 provided with a clamping device 10, 12 by which it can be fixed to the steering column. The bar 15 extends slidably through a hole in the end 17 of the rod 18 to accommodate varying distances of the pedal from the 'steering column. A course adjustment of the length of the device is made by the strut 22, 26, a pin 29 being passed through registering apertures in the parts, and the pedal being then depressed by turning the nut 19 by the arms 20.
