Abstract
An aqueous carroting solution for treating fur, either attached to or cut from the skin, contains nitric acid, hydrogen peroxide, and either sulphuric acid or phosphoric acid, and is free from other active carroting ingredients and from metallic salts and pigment protecting agents. The preferred concentrations of the ingredients are, in grams per 100 ccs. of solution: nitric acid 1-7, hydrogen peroxide 2-10, sulphuric acid 0.5-5, phosphoric acid 0.5-6. For carroting white fur the concentration of nitric acid should be not more than 2.5, that of hydrogen peroxide not less than 7.5, that of sulphuric acid not less than 2, and that of phosphoric acid not less than 5. A dye, e.g. alizarine, may be included in the solution. The solution may be applied to fur by brushing, spraying, immersion, or by mechanical means.
