Abstract

Tobacco is treated with an amount of citric acid equal to at least 1% of the weight of the tobacco. The acid may be added to the tobacco in the form of a dilute aqueous or alcoholic solution by spraying, or the tobacco may be immersed in the solution. The citric acid may be added to the tobacco additives.
