Abstract

In examples: (1) 1 : 2 : 4-triaminobenzene is prepared by reducing 2 : 4-dinitroaniline; (2) 1-(b -hydroxy ethyl) amino-2 : 4-diaminobenzene is prepared by refluxing 1-chloro-2 : 4-dinitrobenzene with monoethanolamine and neutralizing to precipitate 1-(b -hydroxyethyl)amino-2 : 4-dinitrobenzene, which is then reduced; (3) 1-(b -hydroxyethyl)amino - 3 : 4 - diaminobenzene is prepared by reducing 1-(b -hydroxyethyl)-amino-3 - nitro - 4 - aminobenzene; and (4) 1 - (di - b - hydroxyethyl)amino - 3 : 4 - diaminobenzene is prepared by reducing 1 - (di - b - hydroxyethyl)-amino-3-nitro-4-aminobenzene.ALSO:Animal fibre, e.g. hair, is dyed with oxidation dyes by applying an aqueous solution of a compound of the formula <FORM:0805746/IV (c)/1> wherein R and R1 are the same or different and each represents an hydrogen atom or a b -hydroxyethyl radical and X represents a primary amino group, allowing the compound to oxidize on the fibre and finally rinsing. Oxidation may be accelerated by the use of a peroxide, e.g. hydrogen peroxide. The compound may be employed in the form of a salt, e.g. a sulphate, and the pH of the solution is preferably adjusted to 6-8 with an alkali such as ammonia. Examples are given.
