Abstract
598,955. Toothed gearing. GENERAL ELECTRIC, CO., Ltd., and FOREMAN, E. F. Jan. 24, 1945, No. 1977. [Class 80(i)] Toothed gearing applicable to motoroperated radio tuning mechanism as described in Specification 576,161, [Group XL], is adapted to drive a shaft 18 from a driving shaft 11 at a continuously variable velocity ratio. A planet wheel 16 is carried by an arm 10 on the driving shaft 11 and is geared directly or through an idler 15 to a reaction sun wheel 13 which is provided with an arm 14 engaging an adjustable stop 27. A crank-pin 17 on the planet 16 is in driving engagement with a lever 21 rigidly fixed to the driven shaft 18. Thus rotary movement imparted to the driving shaft 11 and planet arm 10 is transmitted to the lever 21 and driven shaft 18 but modified by the rotation of the planet wheel 16. A second lever 22 loose on the shaft 18 maintains the lever 21 in contact with the crank-pin 17 by means of a spring 23 connected between them and a coil spring 26 connected between the planet wheel 16 and its fixed spindle 24 maintains a torque throughout the gearing which takes up any backlash. This spring 26 also serves to reset the gearing automatically when a driving clutch is disengaged. An annulus may be used instead of the sun gear 13 and the functions of the three elements of the train may be variously transposed.
