Abstract

853,055. Toothed gearing. GRIMSTON ELECTRIC TOOLS Ltd. Dec. 10, 1957 [Dec. 10, 1956], No. 37685/56. Class 80 (1). In means for connecting and disconnecting toothed gearing, an intermediate gear is moved eccentrically with respect to one gear, with which it remains in mesh, between positions in which the intermediate gear is fully meshed or fully disengaged from another gear. A driving gear 1 meshes teeth 21 on the periphery of a gear 2 carried by a bearing 4 on a control spindle 3. The spindle 3 has an eccentric portion 5 carrying a worm gear 8 having at one end an integral spin gear 7 meshing with internal teeth in the gear 2. The spindle 3 is carried in a concentric bush 10 and an eccentric bush 13 in a gear casing 11, 14 and is provided with a hub member 17 and handle 19 for rotation of the spindle to produce engagement and disengagement of the worm 8 with a worm-wheel 9, the gears 7, 2, 1 remaining in mesh. A spring 18 may oppose either the engagement or the disengagement of the worm and worm-wheel. The worm and worm-wheel may be replaced by spur gears on parallel shafts.
