Abstract

704,574. Reverse gearing. SOC. AUXILIAIRE D'INDUSTRIE SADI S.P.R.L. Nov. 9, 1951 [Nov. 10, 1950], No. 26302/51. Class 80 (2) A sun 3 on a driving shaft 1 meshes planets 4 on a carrier 6. connected by oppositely acting resilient freewheel elements 7, 8 either to an internally toothed annulus 11 meshing the planets or to a fixed support 19 respectively, according to the direction of rotation of the driving shaft, the annulus being connected to a second sun 12 meshing planets 13 in a carrier 14 connected to a driven shaft 17, the latter planets also meshing teeth in a stationary reaction member 18. The oppositely acting resilient free-wheel elements 7, 8 are so arranged that when the driving shaft 1 is rotated in direction B, the free-wheel element 8 slips in the fixed support 19 and the freewheel element 7 connects the planet carrier 6 to the annulus 11, whereby the first train 3, 4, 11 rotates solidly and the second train 12, 13, 18 gives a reduced drive in the direction B; when the driving shaft is rotated in direction A, the freewheel element 7 slips and the freewheel element 8 prevents backward rotation of the planet carrier 6 whereby, the train 3, 4, 11 gives a reduced drive in the original direction B which is transmitted,' as before, through the train 12, 13, 18 to the driven' shaft 17. Thus reversal of the direction of rotation of the driving shaft changes the velocity ratio of the gearing, although the driven shaft always rotates in the same direction.
