Abstract

591,110. Structure elements for buildings. WEAKLEY, F. J. Dec. 15, 1944, No. 25159. [Classes 20 (ii) and 20 (iv)] A pillar, beam, rafter &c. of a steel framed building is composed of two rolled sheet-steel channels 1, 2 having out-turned flanges 3, 4 for the attachment of gussets, struts, frames &c. and longitudinal grooves 5, 6 which accommodate wooden inserts 11 to which panels, boards &c. may be nailed. An internal transverse web 7 is welded to the flanges. A single channel member only, closed by a web may be used, or the member may be built up as shown in Fig. 5. Two members may be connected in alignment by means of a flanged connecting channel 8 fitting over the channel 1 or 2 and welded to the flanges 3 or 4. Floor beams B and pillars A according to the invention may be secured together by means of flanged triangular gusset plates 13 welded to the flanges of the members A, B. Fig. 7 shows how window frames or door frames 16 may be supported by the pillars A by means of wooden fixing slips 17. The outside wall 20 of brick. asbestos &c. may be locked to the pillars by means of cleats bent over the flanges of the pillars.
