Abstract
617,153. Casting concrete walls in situ; wall-ties; damp-proof courses. FARRANS, Ltd., and McMULLAN, W. March 31, 1945 Nos. 8144 and 28973 [Classes 20(ii) and 20(iv)] Shuttering apparatus comprises a number of pairs of outer and inner vertical columns, vertically spaced ties connecting the pairs, inner and outer shutters and vertically extending clamping members which tighten the edges of the shuttering against the column members and form guides for the vertical sliding adjustment of the shutters. As shown in Fig. 1, the inside edge of the wall is marked by rectangular templets 1 made of channel and angle irons secured to floor joists 7. The shutters, of which there are three on the inside and one on the outside (lower ones 11 only are shown in Fig. 1) are made of steel sheets 15 reinforced by angle-irons, and, along their vertical edges by channels 18, Fig. 4, welded to the sheets. They are clamped against posts 20 by channel clamping members 28 engaging the channels 18, the top ends of the clamping members 28 being secured to the ends of adjustable struts 8, whilst the bottom ends are held upon bolts 32 extending from the channel iron edge 2 of the templet through the adjacent posts 20 to the opposite posts. The ties each consist of an inner rod 22 screwed into the heads 30 of two outer bolts 29, the ends of which carry hand bolts 31 for tightening the clamping members 28. An inner distance piece 23 spaces the two posts 20 of each pair whilst two outer distance pieces 26, 26 hold in place a vertical strip 24, of crosssection shown, which forms a retaining clip for the edges of damp-course layers 25. The tie-rods 22 and the posts 20 are withdrawn after the concrete has set, distance pieces 23, 26, 26 being left in the wall. Ties of a similar design to those shown are used between oppositely facing shutters. In a modification, Figs. 15, 16, wall-linings 40 are assembled inside the internal shutters 15, the uprights, in this case, consisting of T- section members 41 having their webs projecting into the wall and their flanges overlapping the edges of the wall lining. The webs are slotted at 42 and the heads drilled at 43 to receive tie-bolts 44 and distance pieces 45 and the bolt has a cross pin 46 to engage the T-heads which are also engaged by the side channels 18 of the adjacent inside shutters. Several, modifications are described having the supporting posts outside the walls. In one of these, Figs. 20, 32, composite posts, made from sectional irons 75, 76 welded together, lie flush with the faces of the shutters 79 which are clamped to the posts by vertical clamping channels 84 bearing against the edge angle irons 80 of the shutters. Nuts 87 and 90 hold ties 85 and distance pieces 86 in position. There is no damp course. The Figs. 20, 32, composite posts, made from sectional irons 75, 76 welded together lie flush with the faces of the shutters 79 which are clamped to the posts by vertical clamping channels 84 bearing against the edge angle irons 80 of the shutters. Nuts 87 and 90 hold ties 85 and distance pieces 86 in position. There is no damp course. The posts 75 have bases 81, Fig. 32, bolted to angle irons 101 attached by their vertical flanges to a foundation wall 102. Extension columns 75 (shown in broken lines) may be slotted onto projections 81. Modifications of the apparatus incorporating rightangled shutters for the formation of corners and parti-wall junctions are described.
