Abstract

584,259. Pistons. MUNTZ & CO., Ltd., A., and BEALE. E. S. L. Nov. 29,1943, No. 19937. [Class 122 (i)] In an internal combustion engine, e.g., of the opposed free-piston type, each piston has a trunk 20 sliding in a fixed tubular guide 18 provided with a baffle 34, and cooling liquid is directed on to the piston crown through a nozzle and exhausted from inside the guide either by means of a pump or through a lightly spring loaded valve 40. Sealing and scraping rings 43 are provided between the guide and piston trunk. The inside of the piston crown may be of the conical form shown dotted and the trunk may carry a compresser piston 23.
