Abstract
560,303. Two-stroke engines. NICHOLSON, T. M. Oct. 7, 1943, No. 14127/42. [Class 7 (ii)] A two-stroke internal combustion engine has a working cylinder 26 associated with a pump cylinder 14 which delivers to the working cylinder by way of a receiving chamber 25, the transfer from this chamber to the working cylinder being controlled by a spring- loaded valve 24 operated by a piston 22 in an auxiliary cylinder 23 communicating with the pump cylinder. Air or mixture so admitted by ports 17, and compressed in the pump cylinder opens valve 19 leading to a chamber 20. When the explosion pressure in the working cylinder has fallen, pressure in chamber 20 raises the piston 22. This admits air or mixture through ports 27 to the chamber 25 and at the same time opens valve 24 to charge the working cylinder. Automatic valves 28, 31 are provided to avoid danger from back firing. Means may be provided to vary the leverage of the rocker 33 which opens valve 24.
