489,761. Two-stroke engines. GLADWELL, W. H. Dec.‹3, 1936, No. 33222. [Class 7 (ii)] A double-acting two-stroke engine comprises a cylinder 11 which reciprocates over a fixed piston 13 and compresses the charge at the outer ends of a fixed cylinder 12. The admission of the charge, after passing through transfer passages 22, and the exhaust are effected by co-operation of ports 23, 24, 26, 27. The fixed piston 13 is mounted on a tubular bridge 16 containing the sparking-plugs 29 or liquidfuel injectors, and passages for cooling fluid, the cylinder 11 being slotted to allow for its reciprocation. The cylinder 12 may be increased in diameter to increase the compression of the charge.
