Pistons, cooling.-In an internal-combustion engine the power pistons d and their rods, are hollow, and channels e' are formed in the rods to connect the hollow piston to the piston compressor space; the piston interior communicates with the bore in the rod, which bore is connected by a channel to a compressor space above the piston g; by these means a flow of gas is maintained through the piston as the one compressor space is under pressure when the other is drawing in a charge.
