Abstract

170,387. Proffitt, J. J., Llewellen, S., and Adams, H. F. July 19, 1920. Two-stroke-cycle engines.-Combustible mixture is drawn into a chamber formed between pistons 7, 3 which reciprocate one in the other the outer piston having a long admission port 11 which registers with a port 10 in the cylinder wall. Compressed charges are transferred to the combustion space above the outer piston through ports 4 and passages 12. A mechanically-actuated lift valve is located behind the admission port 10. The pistons are connected to a shaft having cranks arranged as shown in Fig. 1 to impart to the inner piston a longer stroke than that of the outer piston. A slight lead is given to the cranks 4<a>.
