Abstract
448,073. Gas compressors. PESCARA, R. P., 115, Rue de la Tour, Paris. Sept. 9, 1935, No. 25101. Convention date, Sept. 7 1934. [Class 8 (i)] An internalcombustion free piston gas compressor having three pistons is arranged so that the pistons define two power spaces and the centre piston moves oppositely to the two outer pistons. The cylinder 1 contains three pistons 2<1>, 2<2>, 2<3>, the end pistons 2<1>, 2<3>, being integral with pump pistons 7<1>, 7<2> connected together by rods 8 and movable in compressor cylinders 6<1>, 6<2>. The central piston 2<2> is connected by a rod 9 with a pump piston 7<3> movable in the cylinder 6<2>. The exhaust ports 3 arc common to both power spaces the movement of the piston 2<a> bringing them alternatively into communication therewith. Separate scavenging ports 4<1>, 4<2> are provided for the two power spaces. In a modification the piston 7<2> is replaced by a bridge piece outside the cylinder 6<2> and the other piston is double acting. In a further modification the upper compressor is eliminated, and the compressor piston replaced by a bridge piece. In an alternative, the cylinder 2 is divided and the central piston 24 is double ended. and co-operates with two coupled exhaust ports 3<1>, 3<2> in the cylinder sections 1<1>, 1<2>. The outer pistons 2m, 2y, are coupled as in other arrangements, whilst the central piston carries a bridge piece to which external rods 8<2> are connected.
