Abstract
577,766. Endless tracks for vehicles. KENNEDY, D. S. Aug. 28, 1944, No. 16295. [Class 79 (i)] An overall chain or endless track of the,.type comprising rigid shoes extending transversely across the tyre tread and side flaps hinged thereto, is provided with two series of chains connecting the side flaps, one series being located relatively near the rigid shoes and the other series nearer the wheel hub. Relative movement between the rigid shoes and the tyre tread is thereby reduced. The rigid shoes a have flaps b hinged thereto. The flaps bare interconnected by two series of chain links c<1> and c<2>, secured between the flaps b and coverplates h by bolts i. The cover-plates h may be dispensed with and two bolts only may be used on each flap instead of four. Where the track extends between two tyres, the chains c<1> and c<2> are both taut, but where the track engages the tyre the outer chain links c<1> are taut and position the shoes a circumferentially on the tyre tread, whereas the inner chain links c<2> which help to position the shoes transversely of the tyre are slack.
