Abstract
574,029. Glass electrodes. KENT, Ltd., G. Nov. 26, 1943, No. 19806. Convention date, Nov. 26, 1942. Drawings to Specification. [Class 56] In a glass electrode having a low sodium error for the determination of pH values, the bulb is made from glass of the following composition, expressed in molecular percentages, 17 to 32 per cent R2O, 4 to 16 per cent MO and 60 to 75 per cent XO2, where R represents a metal or metals of the group lithium, caesium, rhubidium, potassium, M represents a metal or metals of the group barium, strontium, magnesium, calcium and XO2 represents substantially silica. Examples are given of 44 glasses together with their resistance at 25‹ C. and sodium error. The glass may be blown to a thin bulb and a stem attached, the stem being of any glass which has a similar coefficient of expansion and does not diffuse into the bulb to an appreciable extent. Specification 477,849, [Group XXXVI], is referred to.
