Abstract
573,271. Gas turbines. SOC. RATEAU. Feb. 9, 1942, No. 1714. Convention date, March 1, 1941. [Classes 110 (i) and 110 (iii)] Starting means for a gas turbine plant includes a fan v coupled in series and/or in parallel with one or more compressors c which normally supply air to the compressor-driving turbine ta and a turbine tm which drives an electric generator or other machine. The fan may be driven by an electric motor k or by a turbine T as shown in Fig. 7. Air for a combustion chamber ch is supplied by the fan v until the compressor c delivers at a higher pressure and closes a valve r<2>. The delivery of v may pass through the compressor, and/or through a pipe by-passing the compressor. Fig. 5 shows low pressure and high pressure compressors c<1>, c<2> supplied by v. In Fig. 7 the compressor c is supplied initially by a fan v<2>, which also supplies a combustion chamber R and a turbine T driving a second, larger fan v<1>, which may, likewise, supply fluid for a further turbine driving a fan. One fan set may be used to start up a number of turbines, one after another, by using suitably arranged piping.
