Abstract
571,304. Electric induction furnaces. TAMA, M. Oct. 29, 1943, No. 17895. Convention date, Oct. 21, 1942. [Class 39 (iii)] An induction furnace suitable for light metals and alloys comprises a hearth 2 connected by straight parallel melting channels 14 to a chamber 17 sufficiently large to contain slag and impurities over a period of operation. The closed circuit 2, 14, 17 forms the secondary of a transformer having a primary winding 8 surrounding an iron core 10 the magnetic circuit of which is closed by elements on either side of the furnace. The channels 14 are connected at their ends by grooves 15, 16 into which they open abruptly, thereby preventing the accumulation of obstructing compounds in the channels. Cleaning plugs 18 may be provided.
