Abstract
503,129. Electric induction furnaces. FINSPONGS METALLVERKS AKTIEBOLAG. Oct. 18, 1938, Nos. 30157 and 30158. Convention dates, Oct. 27, 1937 and June 30, 1938. [Class 39 (iii)] In a metal-melting furnace, particularly suitable for aluminium and its alloys, a chamber 1 is formed in refractory material 2 and communicates with the two ends of a channel 9 surrounding the core 14 and primary winding 13 of a transformer. The channel 9 consists of two straight vertical portions united by a horizontal portion provided with removable plugs 11. The abrupt changes in direction of the channel 9 cause separation of oxide and slag from the circulating metal and deposition on the wall of the channel. Cleaning of the channel may be effected through the chamber 1, and by removing the plugs 11. A similar 3-phase furnace is described. The furnace may be tilted about an axis coinciding with the lip 8 by a device 15.
