Abstract
239,755. British Thomson-Houston. Co., Ltd., (General Electric Co.). Dec. 16, 1924. Induction furnaces.-In an induction furnace wherein a portion of the charge which forms a closed secondary is contained in an annular chamber 12 which communicates with a reservoir 21, means are provided for causing the charge to flow in a substantially spiral path through the chamber 12. The primary coils 15 are axially displaced with regard to the secondary channel and the latter communicates with the reservoir by way of ducts 13, 14 arranged at opposite ends of the reservoir and on opposite sides of a vertical plane through the longitudinal axis of the furnace as shown in Fig. 1, or by means of an opening 25. Fig. 7, fitted with a block 26, Fig. 6, provided with ducts 27, 28. The ducts between the reservoir and the secondary chamber may be formed tangentially to the latter and where the reservoir has a cylindrical bottom they may be tangential thereto also. The furnace is surrounded by heat insulating material 21<a> and a steel shell 21<b> so arranged as to avoid a conductive circuit around the core 16.
