Abstract

569,668. Knitting-machines. WILDT & CO., Ltd., and HOLMES, H. H. July 26, 1943, No. 12123. [Class 74 (ii)] Auxiliary fabric - tensioning means for a circular machine for producing heel and toe and like pouches comprises a weight 8 of cylindrical shape and a plate 9 secured thereto and having a claw 9a for engaging the fabric in the region of the pouch. The weight 8 is mounted upon a supporting rod 11 so that it can tilt, and in its upper and inoperative position it is engaged by a fixed cam 27. The rod 11 is controlled by a cam on the usual timing drum so that at the necessary time, at the formation of a pouch, the rod 11 is allowed to fall and the claw 9a engages the fabric, and the fabric is tensioned by the weight. More than one claw may be provided. The device may be applied to a superposed cylinder machine having wrap-striping mechanism as described in Specification 455,801.
